Have you read the headlines lately? Watched the 24/7 news channels?
It looks something like this:
"Fears for a pandemic linger"
"Fierce fighting in Gaza leaves truce in tatters"
"North Korea test fires long range missile"
"Attacks in Iraq increase to record levels"
"Wall street set for decline after inflation news"
"US sees growing threats in Somalia"
"Gas prices continue to climb"
You get the point. What hope do we have? |

"And so a child was born; a son given. And, oh, how I love this child..." the grandmother might have spoken.
"I've spent my life reading about truth. I'm not certain I wish to meet it face to face..." a magi might have pondered.
"How was I to know the girl in front of me was about to give birth to the Savior..." an innkeeper might have lamented.
"The Savior was here, so I just left the sheep and went to worship Him..." a shepherd might have confessed.
What will you say? Will you worship Him? |

We come to the last week of our “mountain peak” survey of the Bible. We have investigated God’s relationship to the people he created. And we end the journey by taking a look at heaven! Within two pages of starting the story we discover that we and our world are cursed because of sin. But in the last pages we learn what it is like to have the curse lifted! That is what heaven is all about!
The first Christmas was when God came to live with us temporarily in the person of Jesus. His purpose in coming was to deal with the curse. But, for the follower of Jesus, there will be a day when the presence of God will be up close, personal, and permanent. That’s heaven! Forever! |

So . . . how has your week gone so far? Or how about just today? Did you make any resolutions a year ago that you just broke? How about a resolution you made only an hour ago, and you just broke it?
One would think that after the cross and the resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit the battle would be over. Not so!
In the experience we call the Christian life we gain some victories. We set high standards and ideals and at least temporarily we get there. Then everything collapses! We believe we can become holy and please God by obeying laws. Then we fail.
How do we handle this fight? Am I doing OK if I constantly feel at war? When I became a Christian I thought things would be better? What’s up? |
