Jesus had an amazing way of using simple everyday concepts to drive home a point. What can be simpler than salt and light? We would find life both bland and dark without them. Jesus says his followers are both salt and light—no question about that one. We are to bring preservation, flavor, and direction to a world that is rotting in a rut and lost.
In the Sermon on the Mountain Jesus told us how we are to live until He comes back. He describes the kind of character and actions we ought to demonstrate. But how do we really pull off this “salt and light” stuff? Are we really “salt and light” people? Our effectiveness is on the line!
