Have you committed murder? Do you have the heart for murder?
The answer to the first question is likely “no.” The answer to the second is most definitely “yes.” At least that is the answer based on Jesus’ definitions.
The very root of murder is anger—the slow growing, gently nursed, vengeful, bitter kind of anger. So, if we just keep anger from leading to the physical consequences of murder, haven’t we avoided judgment? On the contrary Jesus said that such anger IS murder!
Jesus’ teaching helps us understand how to identify such murderous anger and what to do about it. Acting to defuse it is even more vital than worship! Sounds important!
