No one sets out on a given day to add to the pain of a friend by making, some insensitive comment about his or her dying loved one, or by adding to the suffering by being overly cheerful during a visit. Often the hurting have to expend a great deal of energy by responding in a controlled silence because we hurt them with our words.
The writers of the Bible were aware of this. Proverbs 25:20 could be read like this: As uncaring as it is to take someone’s coat on a cold day, as messy as it becomes when you pour vinegar on baking soda you can expect the same result if you say cheery things to a heavily burdened heart.
God cares and so should we. Let’s continue learning how to be good caregivers to those who are suffering. |

So we talked and talked… she told me that she has been alone for 27 years, no real friends or family left alive - that her barn is over 95 years old – and that she married a man 23 years older and never had kids. She informed me that she hates popcorn, but loves white wonder bread – she is losing her sight so she wants to use what her eyes have left reading the bible she was given at the age of 5. We see her as often as we can, helping her clean up the farm and getting her groceries. We were not created to experience this life alone. Everyone has a story to tell and every story should be told! This morning I am going to tell you more stories about real people, real pain and real joy. |

Mission: impossible means that there is a task/job/assignment that is not achievable. In the movie, however, the “impossible” mission was always pulled off. Today we are going to walk with one of God’s Prophets who simply could not fulfill his mission. He tried very hard to RUN from God! He did everything he could – and failed. What was he thinking? Wait, what are we thinking? The truth is that there is a little Jonah in all of us. |
