The Da Vinci Code affirms that Jesus was simply a prophet, a great man, an inspiring teacher, but a man nonetheless. The church has conned us into believing that he is God.
Is this true? Did Jesus ever claim to be God? Or was that a fabrication of Emperor Constantine and church leaders?
And if Jesus was not God, then who was he? And how do we pay for our sins? And why bother coming back next Sunday? |

Perhaps we could call Mothers’ Day a time for “goddess worship”. Or maybe not! Are we crazy to ask if women are the enemy of the church? Especially this weekend?
One of the propositions presented in The Da Vinci Code is that the Church eliminated the “sacred feminine” from its life. What is the “sacred feminine?” Is there such a concept in the Bible? Has Christianity set women back thousands of years?
Maybe we can answer some of those questions as we use the Bible and history to clarify the line between fact and fiction in this Dan Brown thriller. |

Hacking Into The DaVinci Code
Over the next three weeks, we will be looking at topics surrounding the best-selling book and highly-anticipated movie "The DaVinci Code." Join us and invite your friends as we seek out the truth behind the fiction.
This week: "Can we trust the four gospels?"
Next week: "Are women the enemy of the church?"
In Two Weeks: "Is Jesus really God?"
We would also like to invite any and all who would like to discuss the topic of the day on The Da Vinci Code to join Pastors Dan and Bruce in the Newcomers Class which meets in the chapel immediately after the Sunday service. We will be going deeper into the ideas presented in the service, with time for Q&A at the end.
If you don’t have a small group, or if you are interested in knowing more about the topics, come and join us! |

A “rite of passage” is a ritual you go through to indicate a change of status. Perhaps you experienced this at confirmation or first communion or a bar mitzvah. Or maybe it happened at a freshman initiation!
Baptism is also a picture of a change of status. In a sense it is a rite of passage. This weekend many are going to illustrate that change in their lives by obeying Jesus’ command concerning baptism.
