listen to the message There is no more common Christian symbol than the cross. We see the cross at the top of church steeples, hanging around necks, formed by athletes as a type of prayer. Isn’t it odd to see a method of capital punishment displayed everywhere? Ever seen someone put a hangman’s noose on a charm bracelet?
The cross represents the very heart of the story of God’s relationship to mankind. The theme of God’s blog is becoming clear--something about sacrifices; substitute sacrifices. It was not the incarnation, it was not the life of Jesus, it was not his teaching, it was not his example that connects us with God. It is the cross--the most dramatic moment of scandalous grace. |
