This powerful commodity called "money" drives us to make interesting choices.  And we often look at our many resources as evidence that God is blessing us--sort of a reward.  (Sometimes wealth can be a curse!)

Ever wonder really why God has given us so much?  I think there is a clear answer, and it has little to do with our founding fathers or the content of the Declaration of Independence or how many churches we have in America.  Probably it is more basic than that.  Maybe He is expecting us to bless others!

We want to be known as generous people, and we with our "riches" we have that opportunity!  It all begins with the understanding that what God has given us is not the harvest but rather the seed!

Money is incredibly powerful. With few exceptions it is a universal language. As such, Jesus used it as the focus of many of his stories. And he reminded us that money leads our hearts, the very center of our lives. Not only that, it is one of the greatest obstructions to heaven!

With its power, money has brought us under its control. Debt alone can strangle us! If we are to demonstrate wisdom in the use of money then we need to get out from under that bondage. This weekend we will review Biblical truth and practical steps which in practice will increase the positive margin between what we have coming in and what we have going out.

Platoons PDF Print E-mail

Social scientists (those people who study what we do and why we do it) have long concluded that “little platoons” are the glue that holds society together. Is that platoon the traditional family in its most basic form? Hardly. Is it my coworkers? I don’t think so.

The Church is no exception when it comes to the glue of “platoons.” The Bible has a lot to say about that. At Calvary we call them small groups. And if they qualify as platoons then the groups truly have “all things in common”—especially day to day life!

But what does that mean for us as followers of Jesus, practically? Do we have true platoons around here? Are you in one? Who are the other members of your platoon?
