We’ve all been invited to parties. We’ve all had to decide whether or not to attend: Who will be there? How should I dress? Will it be fun or boring? Do I really have the time to go?
God has invited us to a party and we ask some of the same questions when we respond. And we offer lots of excuses for not ‘showing up’.
The issues that keep us from drawing closer to God vary from person to person, but regardless, God wants us there.
What is it that keeps you from going?

Often we Christians categorize sins in such a way that we minimize our personal waywardness while maximizing the sins of others.
This can leave us full of pride instead of joy and blessing from our heavenly Father. Those we judge are also missing the joy and benefits of a close walk with God.
A prodigal is one who recklessly wastes things of value. Let’s return to our first love and honor Him with our hearts, minds, time and talents.

The world’s worst prison is the prison of an unforgiving heart.
Jesus told a story about a man who was a debtor—he owed an incredible debt he couldn’t possibly pay. Yet that debt was extravagantly forgiven.
That same man turned around with a spirit of revenge and refused to pardon the puny debt of a friend. And so the king had the first man thrown into prison.
An unforgiving heart is unforgiveable. Yet forgiveness is a test of the very fabric of someone who would follow Jesus. Forgiveness is the bridge to heaven. |

When people met the real Jesus their world was usually rocked. Things were never the same again. Old perspectives, relationships, commitments were shattered only to be replaced by the new.
That’s what the stories about weddings, wine skins, and clothing patches are all about.
Did anything like that happen in your world? The radical changes that a new “connection” brings within cannot be contained by the same “old you” on the outside. |
