Who is your model? I know, we’re supposed to answer “Jesus, of course”! But I’m talking about a model in today’s world. Again, who is your model and why?
When Paul wrote the letter to the Philippians the major theme is unity. Since many of us learn by following an example, it is essential we identify those who demonstrate the kind of spirit that brings unity. That means avoiding extremes, like legalism (too many rules) and libertarianism (no rules)--a balance.
Paul asked that we follow his example. But is there anyone from our personal world whom we should follow? And, is there anyone following you? |

Kidz Lead Worship
Weekend: May 12-13, 2007
read the weekend program
We’ve all had them...a Sunday school class that is boring beyond belief. Twenty kids crammed into a small classroom with a monotone speaker reading the lesson. If there is music, it is something theological like "Deep and Wide" (What’s that about?). And I remember hearing an awful lot of "Shh! No talking". Maybe I was just a noisy child. Or maybe the children’s church time didn’t do a good job at reaching its target audience...kids.
That’s why we do KidZone in a way that is fun for kids. Our goal is to make KidZone the most exciting hour of their week. And why not? When it comes to our most valuable resource...the next generation for Christ...we want them to know that church can and should be relevant. It should be fun. It should be a place where kids are excited about inviting their friends. And it should be a place where kids learn how to worship God.
Today, our kids share their heart for God in a way that is meaningful to them...through upbeat worship and dance. Join them as we worship God together! |

Ever been on a family road trip and heard the question, “Are we there yet?” I already know your answer to that one! But do the kids ever ask, “Where are we going?” Usually they know.
This life of following Jesus is also like a road trip (the Apostle Paul compares it to a marathon race). The problem is that most of us cannot explain what the real longing (goal) of this life is! And if we know what the goal is, we often expect to get there soon. Paul clarifies both the goal and the process. And don't expect perfection!
These verses (Philippians 3:7-16) are the kind of stuff that ought to be framed and hung prominently. |

because of the baptism service.

This is our weekend to celebrate those who have chosen to follow Jesus! And there is nothing more exciting!
We do that through this event called “baptism.” It is a memory aid. Baptism reminds us that when we became Christians we died, were buried, and rose again with Christ to a new life.
Together we applaud those who are participating in this action of obedience to our Lord. |
