Each year in the United States 4.3 million women give birth. Forty percent of those giving birth will be mothers for the first time. The average age of a first time mom is 25. There are 5.6 million stay at home moms (2006). There are 751,322 day-care centers across the country to which mothers turn to help juggle motherhood and careers. 10.4 million – the number of single mothers living with children under the age of 18. It is estimated that there are 82.8 million moms in the United States (2004). And endless are the number of things mothers do for us that go unnoticed.

As you think of mom this weekend, take some time to thank them for all that they have sacrificed … for you. What other reason would massive football players and little kids alike make fools of themselves jockeying to wave to a TV camera while saying, "Hi Mom!"? This weekend’s service is dedicated to you … from us kids … big and small alike.

We spend so much time talking about the "how-to" of parenting that we neglect the equally important "why" of parenting. This seems backwards, because the "why" will eventually drive and even shape the "how-to."

We are going to explore this transforming process of being a parent and how in the good and the bad children will mold our hearts, shape our souls, and invite us to experience God in new and deeper ways.

Remember what the great theologian Phyllis Diller said: "Always be nice to your children because they are the ones who will choose your rest home."

Celebrating Baptism!

"special service" no audio
read the weekend program

Just a few weeks ago we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus. And we were reminded the resurrection is not just about something "out there someday." It is about the "here and now."

How can we best illustrate that we follow this Jesus and believe in the resurrection? How we act in the "here and now" is one indicator. Another is this thing called "baptism."

Paul said it this way, "That's what baptism into the life of Jesus means. When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus." (Romans 6:3-4, MSG)

Baptism is our way to advertise that we follow the resurrected Jesus.

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 7:28

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 7:28, “Those who marry will face many troubles in this life.”  Boy, is that an understatement!  You find yourself thinking, “We’re fighting a lot, are rarely ‘playing’, and I have been seriously wondering if I married the wrong person.”

What happened to those romantic days during the honeymoon stage?  What am I to do when things are not going well in the marriage?  It seems like there are only two options:  resign myself to a life of misery, or get out!

Is this what God intended for my marriage?  Is there another way?  How can I analyze my situation to see if there is any hope to save my marriage and keep my vows?
