Vision Weekend, June 23-24

"Back to the Basics" is the theme for Calvary’s annual meeting. It will be in the form of an entire weekend devoted to celebrating and looking ahead. You don’t want to miss it! We will also be electing two new members to the Leadership Board. Details about various ministries will be available along with financial reports. We have also scheduled some open and informal "town meetings" that weekend for more interaction regarding church business—Saturday, June 23, 7:30 p and Sunday, June 24, 10:30 a. Come to one of those meetings with questions and comments.

New Sign!

The work is completed on the new church sign out front. I have been watching how the information attracts attention as people drive by. Thanks for your participation in this project. You will note that we try to get some specifics about the weekend subject on it. Our desire is to keep the content relevant and fresh.

Liberia

This week three of us are headed back to that great West Africa country--Jill Cawiezell, our director of the Cross Cultural Outreach Team, John Messer (our executive pastor) and I. Pray for our impact as we evaluate medical and educational opportunities. We will be facilitating a pastors’ conference for 100 church leaders at Calvary Baptist Church, Monrovia—the home church of Melvin and Martha Ngwayah. Frankly I struggle with how we can encourage or teach brothers who have been through so much more than we! We will also be focusing on the work of Centerpoint International—our partner in training and development for the people of Liberia and West Africa.

Mothers’ Day

What a delightful experience! The weekend focused on our KidZone as they led us in worship and celebration. Over 1400 were in attendance to respond to the energy and passion of our kids and students! We cannot applaud them enough!

Budget

Our fiscal calendar begins on July 1 and we will be announcing a new budget for the coming year. But every so often we get a question about the weekly giving amounts compared to the budget as reported in the program. It appears that often our giving is below the budget. Our annual report will reflect that. We are not spending more than we take in, however, we have had to reduce ministry budgets and postpone some of the "20:24" special projects. We are still able to care for the "bare bones" expenses of Calvary Church. Consider how you might be involved in meeting our fiscal needs.

Commons

Our Phase 2 team is planning to do some of the remodeling of the Commons this summer. Since our 20:24 income is a bit behind projections it appears we will be unable to finish the entire upgrading at once. There may also be some opportunities to donate labor during the process.

Financial Peace University

The first class of 95 graduated a couple of weeks ago. The long term impact remains to be seen, but the immediate results included such benefits as the collective retirement of a quarter million dollars of debt! Jesus talked about money all the time. Perhaps he knew we would need the instruction. And FPU goes to the next step as it takes the teaching about managing God’s resources to a very practical level. Another class has already started, and more will be offered in the future.

 "Scare Dan"

Many of you saw the video record of the "intrusion" into our home (with the cooperation of insiders). Frankly, Lea and I considered it a rather odd honor to be the victims. Anyway, here is the link--http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmH7B9Y7a8Y
