Hi Ho!
It’s been great fun in the evenings to listen to the chorus frogs (the ones that sound like you’re running your finger across the teeth of a stiff plastic comb) and the spring peepers (yep, they sound like little chicks). If I walk really quietly, they’ll keep up their cacophony of calls, but if they hear me, it’s instant silence. Spring peepers are pretty rare in Iowa – they are primarily found in the counties along the Mississippi River – so we’re lucky to have them!
I wasn’t thinking I was too lucky last week when I stepped into water in our laundry room. Apparently the circuit breaker connected with our sump pump tripped (for some unknown reason) and we wound up with water in the family room, hallway and laundry room. I had a hot date with the shop vac – not too sexy with my pants rolled up and my duck shoes on – but I did get to sing "Bill Grogan’s Goat" at the top of my lungs. It is my "water song", to be sung only in the face of regrettable situations. (I think it was in my Level I piano book or maybe a 2nd grade song book.) It helps to be silly in rotten circumstances. Beats being upset.
